Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
WSUS (previously called Windows Update Services)
is the new name for the next version of Software Update Services (SUS). WSUS is a
patch and update component of Windows Server and offers an effective and quick way
to help you get secure and stay secure. WSUS represents an important step toward
delivering a core software distribution and update management infrastructure in Windows.
WSUS has both a server and client component.
Normally you would be required to retrieve these updates directly from the Microsoft
WSUS Server. This can be a time consuming exercise as the associated data has to come
from overseas servers. As an added value service to our @datec internet
customers we have implemented a WSUS server in PNG. This Server is updated daily and is
a replica of the WSUS servers located at Microsoft. You are now able to download the
latest Microsoft updates locally which will be a lot faster than going to the Microsoft
servers. There are no subscription costs to this service. It is intended to provide our
customers with a facility that will save both time and money when downloading the latest
Microsoft updates.
Listed below are the platforms that support WSUS client:
- Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and later
